Offical Visits to Japan and Participation in STS Forum 2025

In October 2025, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Verşan KÖK, Rector of the Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University (TJU), carried out a series of official visits to Japan. Following his participation in the STS Forum 2025 held in Kyoto from 5 to 7 October, he held meetings with the Vice Minister and senior executives of leading Japanese institutions to discuss and explore potential areas of cooperation between Türkiye and Japan.

During the visit, a meeting was also held with H.E. TAMURA Masami, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Türkiye, who officially assumed his duties in Ankara on 15 October 2025.

At the RIKEN Center for Computational Science, the delegation received detailed briefings on the Fugaku supercomputer. In addition, constructive meetings were held with the presidents and rectors of Osaka University, Kyoto University, Nagoya University, the University of Tsukuba, and Waseda University. The discussions focused on enhancing academic collaboration, promoting faculty and student exchange programs, and developing joint research initiatives in the fields of disaster science, information technology, energy, and artificial intelligence.

Agreements were reached with all the aforementioned universities to initiate the signing process of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at formalizing collaboration frameworks in research, education, and innovation. Furthermore, discussions were held on the establishment of a Center for Japanese Language and Culture Education at TJU, as well as the development of joint graduate program opportunities. Within this framework, Kyoto University’s Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Osaka University’s Center for Japanese Language and Culture, and the University of Tsukuba’s JV Campus initiative were identified as priority strategic partners.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Verşan KÖK emphasized that these visits mark a significant milestone in strengthening the academic, scientific, and diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Japan. He expressed his belief that the bridges built in the fields of science, technology, and education will play a key role in shaping a shared vision for the future.
