Professor Bekir Sami Yilbas is the founding Rector of Turkish Japanese Science and Technology University since 19th November 2021.

He received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from Birmingham University (UK). He has published over 900 journal papers in internationally reputed journals and presented 120 papers and keynote speeches at International Conferences and Symposiums.
He is the author of 12 scientific books published by Elsevier and Springer publishers and he has 21 USA patents.

His academic research work received great recognition from several universities and other scientific bodies around the world. His H-index is 57 (Google Scholar) and his work received 17251 citations over the years.

He is involved and currently running many industrial projects. Prof. Yilbas has worked at various universities including Birmingham University (UK), Glasgow University (UK), Erciyes University (Türkiye), Gazi University (Türkiye), King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Korean Advanced Institute of Technology (Korea), Sheffield University (UK), Ontario Tech University (Canada), and MIT (USA).

Prof. Bekir Sami Yilbas was the University Distinguished Professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals for the last ten years.  Because of his scientific contributions, Prof. Yilbas received many awards over the years.

Some of these include President of India’s Prize for 1988, India, the best researcher awards from KFUPM (1997, 2002, 2007), Silver Jubilee Medal for the outstanding achievements in Materials and Manufacturing 2005 by Silesian University of Technology, Poland, Doctor of Engineering Degree from Birmingham University (2005), UK, Donald Julius Groen Prize for 2007 from by Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Manufacturing Industries Division, UK, Professor W. Johson International Gold Medal for 2008 by awarded by the Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies Steering Committee, Ireland.

Professor Fryderyk Staub Golden Owl Award by World Academy of Metals, Poland, and Almarai’s Distinguished Scholar Prize, awarded by King Abdulaziz City of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia.

Prof. Yilbas was the founder and director of the laser lab at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals until 2022. He taught several courses in Mechanical Engineering particularly thermofluid Sciences, Energy, and Materials at graduate and undergraduate levels. He worked as a project manager/consultant to SABIC (Saudi Basic Industry), SEC (Saudi Electric Company), and ARAMCO (Saudi Arabian Oil Company).

He was a fellow researcher and advisor to KACARE (King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy) for many years.
