Professor Mesut GÜNER, the Council Chair of Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University (TJU), and Professor Mustafa Verşan KÖK, Rector of the TJU, visited Japan from 21-26 June 2025 as part of an official invitation program by the Government of Japan.
During the visit, the delegation held strategic meetings with key institutions, including the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the Institute of Science Tokyo, and the University of Tokyo. In addition, valuable exchanges were held with Japanese Council Members and members of the Japanese Coordination and Advisory Committee (JCAC).
The visit served to reaffirm the commitment of both Türkiye and Japan to establishing TJU as a symbol of bilateral cooperation. Discussions focused on launching the university with a graduate program in earthquake disaster science—an area of critical importance shared by both countries.
In addition to institutional dialogues, the delegation explored possibilities to deepen scientific collaboration through reinforced partnerships between TÜBİTAK and its Japanese counterparts, JST and JSPS. The meetings also addressed ongoing academic exchanges between leading Turkish universities and Japanese institutions, with a shared expectation that TJU will play a central role in further advancing student mobility and faculty cooperation.
TJU extends its sincere appreciation to all Japanese partners for their warm hospitality and engaging discussions throughout the visit.
This engagement marks another important step in building a robust platform for academic and scientific collaboration between Türkiye and Japan.
