Research Centers
The research ecosystem of the Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University is envisaged to be structured in line with the common scientific and technological priorities of Türkiye and Japan, the academic programs of the university, the development goals of both countries, and emerging technological transformations on a global scale.
The primary objective of this ecosystem is not merely to create a research infrastructure that produces academic publications; rather, it aims to establish an integrated research and innovation environment where scientific knowledge is transformed into economic, social, and technological value.
The research centers to be established within TJU should not be considered traditional research units conducting academic work in specific disciplines. These centers must be designed as centers of excellence that integrate graduate education, joint international research, industry collaboration, technology transfer, intellectual property management, entrepreneurship, researcher training, and social contribution activities under one roof.
1. Earthquake and Disaster Resilience Research Center
Its fundamental aim is to create an internationally recognized research center by bringing together the scientific knowledge of Türkiye and Japan in earthquake engineering, seismology, disaster management, and resilient cities. Since both Türkiye and Japan are countries with high earthquake risks, it is necessary to develop long-term and strategic scientific cooperation in this field.
2. Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies Research Center
Its goal is to create a leading scientific platform that supports TJU's Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies Ph.D. Program and conducts joint research in the field of digital transformation between Türkiye and Japan. The center should focus not only on fundamental AI research but also on the applications of AI in various fields such as industry, disaster management, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and public services.
3. Energy and Sustainable Technologies Research Center
It will conduct advanced research in carbon-neutral technologies, clean energy production, energy storage, energy efficiency, and sustainable development. The center should be structured to bring together Türkiye's energy supply security goals and Japan's technological competencies in hydrogen, battery, and energy efficiency.
4. Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Research Center
Its objective is to establish an advanced techonolgy-focused research infrastructure to support TJU's education and research capacity in Materials Science and Engineering. The center should be built on a holistic process that extends from materials design and production to characterization, prototype development, and commercialization, rather than solely focusing on material development.
Shared Use Research Infrastructures
In order for the research centers to operate effectively, efficiently, and sustainably, certain advanced research infrastructures must be structured with a shared-use model.
• High-Performance Computing Center: It will provide the necessary computing capacity for training AI models, disaster simulations, computational materials science, energy systems analysis, fluid dynamics, and advanced numerical modeling studies.
• Research Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure: It must be established to securely store, process, and share the large volumes of scientific data produced at the university.
• Advanced Imaging and Characterization Center: It will bring together electron microscopes, spectroscopy systems, surface analysis devices, thermal analysis systems, and other advanced measurement devices in a single shared equipment facility.
